Lienert Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

A brand new release for Lienert Estate comes with another eye-catching label. This time green locusts make their mark as they did when the journey of Cabernet commenced at Lienert. Give this a long decant or tuck it away for a while to see it at its best.

Many years ago Cabernet was planted out at the Lienert vineyards. A plague of locusts caused all levels of havoc, so much so, patience was lost and all the vines were bulldozed in frustration. Many years later, one solitary vine was found to have survived and was struggling up an olive tree. Cuttings were taken from this remaining vine and a new vineyard was planted out. And here we are, the first wine to come from these plantings.

Quite big and ripe, time is the key with this one. It takes a while to open up before it shows blackcurrant pastilles, blackcurrant paste, licorice jelly beans along with some prunes and stewed fruit. Mint and dried herbs seemingly ride on the horizon overshadowed by the warmth and baked fruit. Peppered steak rises up with more air under its wings. Puckering and drying tannins consume the mouth on close. But yes, give it time to tame the beast.
