Thomas Wines Elenay Shiraz 2021

What started as a one-off make up blend many years ago of the Lips and Arseholes (L&A = Elenay), the Elenay has morphed into a considered and premium wine in the Thomas Wines range. So much so, it seems to strut with glitter and shiny stuff. Incredibly successful on the show circuit, it's a victory for you when it's in your glass.

As Andrew Thomas says, "From an elegant, medium bodied vintage, the Elenay is a finely tuned style. Specific barrels are earmarked early, but in all, it's sexy and fun to play around with the single vineyards to come up with this blend."

This release is predominantly a blend of fruit that goes to Kiss and Sweetwater. The end result is countless blending trials and winemaker class.

Glorious, this is simply superb. 2021 threw its challenges at Hunter Valley winemakers but the Elenay walks on air.

Floating through the mouth, red and dark berry fruits reign supreme. Woodsy and earthy spices mesh in harmony. Red licorice, Cherry Ripe, Christmas cake spices, the splendour is real.

Much like its maker, it's not in a rush. It rides a gradual and uber-relaxed path. Part of its sticks to the mid-palate. Part of it wants you to hang on forever as it reaches long on an incredibly persistent finish.

Classy. Precise. It's Andrew Thomas at his best. Lap this up.
