A bit of Tina Turner action here from the gang at Redman Wines - the best! The best fruit and the best barrels are blended to produce The Redman in exceptional years.
Those Coonawarra mornings are quite chilly and this Redman is a little like the old tractor in the shed that takes a while to warm up before you take the brake off and go cruising. It took three days of tasting to find its mojo, but in true Redman form, this is a classic keeper and is made for the long haul. Once it found its groove it was humming.
A blend of Cabernet and Shiraz (78/22), it's as generous as ever. Veneers of blackcurrants, dark chocolate, sandlewood and cedar peel off with ease. The detail doesn't stop there with mint, dark plums and tomato paste nuances. The more I swirl the more delight rises to the surface. Tar and baking spices muse building to a sustained, drying finish highlighted by cocoa and brick dust like tannins.
It's a wine I'd like to revisit in five years time to see its development. If you're seeking a birthyear wine, this won't disappoint.
