If aged Riesling spins your wheels, get amongst this late release from Spinifex. Wonderfully concentrated, it still has many years of pleasure ahead.
I came across this at a quick tasting at Artisans of Barossa recently. Cool digs, get there when you're in the Barossa. Over 100 wines for sale from eight producers, 40+ wines on tasting on a rotating list, causal dining from the bar menu or treat yourself in the classy restaurant to an excellent and considered menu. It's a fab joint and an excellent addition to the Barossa landscape.
I'm reliably informed that this Riesling was not up to scratch for release in 2017. Packed up and left in storage, it was seemingly forgotten about until recently. The metamorphosis that took place was enough to re-label it as a 'late release' and here we are in 2023 with the bottle aging done for us. Winning!!
Lemon curd, lemon zest, and preserved lemon are the heroes. They consume the mouth and roll about with voluptuous delight. The acid has softened yet shapes the palate wonderfully. And that length! A smart Riesling but be sure not to serve it too cold so its best attributes can be exhibited.Source: Sample
