Briar Ridge Hillrose Shiraz 2022

Sourced from a single vineyard in the Hilltops region sitting 450 metres above, this medium-bodied Shiraz is a riot of sour cherries.

The cooler climate of the Hilltops leads to a longer ripening season. Sitting on skins for 19 days, it was then sent to new, one and two year old French oak for 11 months before blending and then bottling.

On reflection, this would be the most expensive Hilltops red wine I've had the pleasure of tasting - most have been around the $30 mark.

Each time I go back I can't escape that cherry delish. Aromas of red petals, blue flowers and blueberries add prettiness. Red licorice mingles with the cherry fruit and flecks of dusty earth follow suit. The mid-palate is firm and holds a tight rein. Even after a few days of tasting, the tension was evident highlighting that this will age nicely. Fine tannins cap things off with an energetic red apple acidity that bounds along full of beans. Give it some time and be rewarded.

Drink 2025 to eight years+
