Amour Wines Double Barrel Shiraz 2019

Representing the two best barrels of Shiraz, this Amour Double Barrel is only released in exceptional years. Spending two years in French oak, two years on lees and two years in bottle before release, this is a considered and patient cool climate red wine that will comfortably ride out many years in the cellar.

From vines grown 860 metres above, 50% new French oak was used. Only 50 dozen were produced.

Veneers of interest come in the form of dense Satsuma plums, blackberries, drunken cherries, char, carob, dark chocolate, cedar, coconut husk - it is curious and thought provoking.

There is no doubting the impact and presence of the oak for now, but this is a wine for later. Over a few days of tasting it is clear the trajectory this Shiraz is on but the final piece of the puzzle is for the oak to calm a fraction. Still tightly wound, patience will reward.

Superfine brick dust and cocoa like tannins are brushed about delicately. It's moreish deluxe, and admittedly, it's hard to put the glass down. What an absolute beauty!
