A wicked Chardonnay from little known Orange producer Amour Wines, these wines are patient and delicately handled. I could huddle in the corner and selfishly slurp this on my own. And maybe I just did that...
From a long and wet growing season, the fruit was barrel fermented with wild yeast and saw 15 months of French oak (33% new) which is up from the 25% new oak used in the 2021.
The extra oak does have an impact building a more rounded presence. Fleshy with some give, praline, nougat and roasted cashews have me captivated from the get-go with waves of yellow peaches and white fleshed nectarines rolling in with absolute ease. A wine that opens up splendidly with some air under its wings, lemon sorbet, hints of lemon sherbet and some old school lemon squash flood late for impact. Not to be outdone, a little freeze-dried mango tease makes a brief cameo before it moves on. Sheets of vanilla cream and almond meal stay the course and leave a lasting impression. It's best you get Amour Wines on your radar.
