A tearaway deal for those who embrace texture and interest, this Yelland & Papps Blanc is dripping with personality. Wonderfully structured and considered for $32, go here.
The makeup of the Blanc is vintage dependent and this 2023 is 100% Roussanne. Pressed to French oak, it undergoes wild yeast fermentation and sits for 8 months (64% large format, 36% tank). Minimal SO2 is used only at bottling. Not filtered.
Scents of marigold flowers and yellow stonefruit set things alight. There is a detail about its swagger and I'm hooked. Generous fruit runs deep with a rounded and luscious presence. Pears, apricots and golden apples build the fruit profile with beeswax, fennel, elderflower and a few drops of lemon juice for good measure. It brings the mouth to water leaving green tea and Mediterranean tonic tannins to consider on a fabulous finish. Beautiful drinking for texture and interest hounds, definitely go here.
