The Devil is in the detail. This flagship Shiraz from Chapel Hill comes from their oldest vines (0.8 hectare block) and has had the best thrown at it. What an exquisite thing of beauty it is.
It sees 20 months in French oak, but the striking feature is the supple, smooth edges and the core of dense and generous fruit. Scents of sweet spices, chocolate torte and chocolate brownie get you in the mood. Black fruits muse with boyenberries and mulberries, and despite the generosity on offer, there is an unmistakable agility and seamless flow. With all the hallmarks of a wine made for ageing, some tension is still apparent even after a few days of tasting. Ready to bed down for decades, fine spices reach long with superfine tannins on what seems a never-ending finish. Brilliant and then some.
