An avalanche of red fruit keeps this Ox Hardy Blewitt Springs Grenache buoyant.
This is the first release that the fruit is entirely sourced from the 40-year-old Natale vineyard in Blewitt Springs. Previous vintages have included some parcels from McLaren Flat in the blend. Handpicked, 15% whole bunches were used and it saw 8 months in seasoned French oak.
Red frogs, squishy raspberries, red apples and red currants build the interest and joyous vibe. Shards of dark chocolate and orange peel slide in underneath. I picked up a curious peanut presence and something that resembles a Greek yoghurt-like creaminess, something I haven't seen in this wine previously. They weren't off-putting but peered through enough for me to raise an eyebrow. Fine ripples of fruit bun spices reach long on an enticing and moreish finish. It's a wine that will take a slight chill on warmer days, but overall, there is no mistaking its slurp factor.
