The Oakridge Vineyard Series continues to impress regardless of whether you have the Pinot Noir or the Chardonnay in your glass. This Hazeldene Pinot, from the Upper Yarra, is a beauty.
It opens with some vegetal action in the form of cut herbs and green peppercorns. Twigs, orange peel, and puffs of dirt road add a neat, earthy note, slowly unfurling, revealing layers of delight. Basketfuls of cherries and red currants are joined by charred meats, with exotic meat rub spices lingering on the finish. Like an archer's bow, there is a long draw on close that is celebrated by the spice. Love it!
