The fruit that contributes to this Willunga 100 Sheer Madness Grenache/Shiraz/Mataro has some serious vine age, planted in 1968, 1936 and 1940 respectively. Let's not gloss over the name either - Sheer Madness. What a cracker!
The fruit delivers an admirable presence in the form of blueberries, cherries and baked raspberries. A little Cherry Ripe appeal builds some fabulous momentum. A lick of sweetness looms up, then a tense, muscular spice whips through and takes hold. I enjoyed the earthy and meaty drive that elevates the savoury profile. It's a great barbecue wine.
