Winemaker Tim Dexter expressed with detail the TLC the vineyard is given by viticulturist Steve Faulkner often referring to 'living wines' due to the meticulous care for the soils and vines.
These vines are close planted, only 0.75m apart, which results in less fruit production (1.5kg per vine as opposed the 3kg norm). The roots compete with their neighbour ensuring they push deep. Despite the need for more pruning and maintenance, the results speak for themselves.
For context, these vines sit out the front of the cellar door - a warm site.
Dark cherries, red berries, dark chocolate and an array of fine spices are the main players. It's a wine with tremendous reach yet the fruit has a little crunch and incredibly silky tannins. Time in the glass sees more of the plum spectrum rise up and pretty florals follow suit. Persistent, elegant, just wow. Brilliant stuff!
