The thread of consistency is neatly stitched throughout these Pizzini wines. This La Volpe Nebbiolo is a tidy wine and a drink now type that will suit richer dishes.
Barbecue smoke, leather, red cherry compote, stewed fruit and Christmas cake make a diverse entrance but they come together neatly. Weightier and denser than those I've had previously under this label, there is a brownish edge to the hue. A day on and things mesh a little better and I shuffle a little closer. That unmistakable powdery tannin synonymous with the variety is not far from the action. I've got eyes for a mushroom risotto but a slow cooked rabbit stew wouldn't miss either.
Drink to five years.
