De Iuliis Limited Release Shiraz 2019

The De Iuliis Limited Release Shiraz has quietly ascended into the upper echelon of Hunter Valley Shiraz, yet many are still getting to know the brand and its quality. Introduce yourself, please do. This wine is excellent.

I first tasted this 2019 Shiraz as a pre-release at a media event in the Hunter Valley back in 2022. One of twelve wines tasted, this De Iuliis made a significant number of those folk in the room do a double take. Lined up beside the likes of Thomas Wines Kiss Shiraz, First Creek, Tyrrell's Vat 9, Brokenwood Graveyard and Mount Pleasant Maurice O'Shea, the 2009 and 2019 vintages for each were shown to demonstrate the capabilities of Hunter Valley Shiraz.

Those wines mentioned are all single vineyard wines whereas this De Iuliis Limited Release is a vineyard blend from the best parcels of their Steven and Lovedale Road vineyards. Clever winemaking and blending are the go here.

Just released from its hibernation, embrace black fruits, red berries, blueberries and puffs of Hunter earthiness that fold into one another with ease. Add some char, licks of charcuterie and dried herbs plus an endless array of fine spices. This is a medium-bodied delight served up on a platter. Drinking well now, previous vintages have shown that a decade+ is more than achievable. What a beauty!
