A juicy and slurpable Grenache, this Limited Release 2024 from Varney Wines is a fabulous wine in its own right, but it hasn't reached the lofty heights of the 2023.
Sourced from three 70+ year old vineyards in McLaren Vale, it was wild yeast fermented with partial whole bunch, carbonic maceration and 11-22 days on skins before seeing seasoned French oak for nine months.
Blueberries and mulberries cascade from the glass offering a joyous and supple presence. Some earthy and meaty flecks chime in with a little dash of chocolate for good measure. A touch more density than 2023, there is no denying the medium-bodied frame. Knocking back a glass is an easy task.
Drink to eight years.
