A firm and robust Shiraz from Adelaide Hills producer Mt Bera, this is a wine that needs food by its side.
A wine highlighted early on by firm tannins, dense earth and scenes of camphor, it sees twelve months in French oak (25% new). Give it a little time to compose itself and black tea, dark cherries and baked plums wriggle forward to take the stage. The oak is quite muscular and speaks too loudly for my liking. That impact detracts from he solid work done prior. Barbecue rub and barbecue spices are scattered about on close with plump tannins having the last word. Perhaps some more bottle age will be the tonic to see the oak integrate a bit better?
