It's been a while since a Coulter wine has appeared on the Qwine tasting bench, and gee, I'm glad it's back. Structured and textured, this Chardonnay is tops.
It sits more on the yellow stonefruit side of the spectrum, but it's still vibrant and athletic. Meyer lemons and old school lemonade do laps around the palate effortlessly. Some pie apple adds interest as does a lemon myrtle like cameo. Yellow grapefruit is chiselled into the frame showing nimble feet and bringing a citrusy zip. As it warms up in the glass, a Portuguese tart creaminess and a pastry feel add further layers of intrigue with a fine cashew nuttiness.
A wine that exudes charisma, this is a fabulous example of Chardonnay to splash large and enjoy with those who embrace you with their smile, because that is precisely how this Chardonnay engages you.
