Seville Estate Dr McMahon Reserve Pinot Noir 2021

Select. Precise. Earthy. Delicious. That's it in a nutshell. A thought-provoking and well-made Pinot Noir from Seville Estate. The critical factor here is that it is not a wine for now. Tuck it away and forget about it. Let ageing and the glamour of excellent winemaking do their thing.

For now, I'm judging a wine in the glass but the crystal ball suggests something magical is on the horizon.

It's tense, and along with the oak influence, this will unfurl beautifully. But the guess work is not what I'm here for, so the numbers probably don't reflect where things are heading.

Dark plums and dark cherries open proceedings. There is a dehydrated savoury appeal to it that I find gravitating. Dark chocolate, charred oak and fine spices muse. Some game, dried leaf matter and undergrowth features with a prominent mushroom and umami highlight. The tension builds a vortex of intrigue. Powdery and dusty feels roll out slowly through the mouth, that wave landing on the shore and slowly creeping up. Beautiful.

This will be immense in five years+ and will live comfortably beyond a decade.
