From the original 1972 Shiraz plantings, only 50 dozen of this 2019 Dr McMahon were produced. Silky with a rustic edge, it took a couple of days to get about its work.
100% barrel fermented, wild fermented in 100% new oak (500L) without fining or filtration, it is very much a medium-bodied wine.
Dark and red cherries plus red plums drive the fruit profile. Paprika and barbecue rub spices coil around the mouth along with soy and some meatiness courtesy of the whole bunches. A touch of lemon acidity cuts in on close shining the beacon for ageing. It's certainly a wine I'd hold. Those spices hum on the mid-palate with dusty and talc like tannins leading to a long finish. A quality wine sure to develop further with bottle age.
