Welland Wines Valley and Valley Shiraz 2022

I previously tasted this wine in the Welland Vineyard on the back of a ute with owner Ben Chapman back in April. It was tasted soon after bottling and the three months since has certainly made a difference and helped it settle into its shoes.

Valley and Valley is a blend of Barossa and Eden Valley fruit.

Broad and inky, it shows some iodine with a thick smear of plummy fruit. Lashings of blackberries and a lick of baked blueberries rise up with some raspberry and dark chocolate sitting in the background. It's dense but well weighted - classic cold weather drinking. Fruit bun spices curl around the mouth supported by cloves and some earthy feels. There is some mouth warmth but it is clear this is calming from the previous time I tasted it - well played. Puffy and drying tannins are perched on a long and persistent finish that just hangs. A great example of Barossa Shiraz at this price point and one that will continue to reward for the years to come.
