Escarpment Chardonnay 2022

A generous Chardonnay with width and density for days.

Escarpment is owned by Torbreck and I had the opportunity to taste this at a recent portfolio launch.

Whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak with wild yeast, it spent a further 11 months in barrel (20% new).

Flinty from the get-go, unmissable gunpowder aromas leap from the glass. Yellow stone fruits, dehydrated peach, yellow flowers, creme brulee - lots of weighty things you could say. That struck match character isn't far from the action with supporting roles from ash, Jersey caramel and a riverstone minerality rippling through. I really enjoyed the glass I had due to the interest it possesses.

Drink to five years.
