Release number two of this captivating and uber-impressive expression of Vermentino from Storm King Wine Co. Dripping with interest, it is a wine that continued to develop the longer it was open. An excellent wine hands down and if texture is in your wheelhouse, head over this way.
Only 585 bottles were produced. Fermented on skins for 10 days, hand plunged, no fining or filtration before being basket pressed and seeing seasoned oak for eight months. Wax capped and sealed with cork, considered winemaking ensures the final product oozes detail. The brand's sustainability focus is expressed through the labels as well which are made of 50% grape marc - a neat touch.
I dig the simplicity of the back label too: dry, musky, textured, handpicked - all the information you need to know without going OTT. Respect to Ray and Jen Costanzo for acknowledging the First Nations people (Kambuwai people), too. No other Granite Belt producer does this.
Tonic and powdery feels consume the mouth. The deliberate use of skin contact has over delivered. That superfine coating is moreish and then some. Vibrant ginger, lemon myrtle, chai tea and the suggested musk all add veneers of interest. Honey puffs, almonds, fine biscuity nuances and cinnamon slowly emerge. Dry and dangerously moreish, it's a sip slow and consider type of wine. The volume and flow are glorious. Find that beach spot with the seaspray on your face, a comfy chair in your happy place, that time alone with your love or even kicking back at sunset by the fire during the cooler months, this is a beauty for all occasions.
Drink to five years.
