Burton McMahon George's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Epically silky, this is a smashing Yarra Valley Pinot Noir from two mates with supreme winemaking IP.

Matt Burton (Gundog Estate) and Dylan McMahon (Seville Estate) source the fruit from the George's Vineyard which is situated 180 metres above in the Upper Yarra Valley on red volcanic soils. The fruit was hand-picked twice - once for each clone (777 & 114/115). The parcels were fermented separately with each having a 100% whole bunch portion that was blended with the destemmed fruit making the final whole bunch contribution about 30%.

Black pepper and earthy spices open the proceedings. The savoury drive from the whole bunches is evident and is partnered by dried leaves, twigs and autumnal things. Red and dark cherry fruit are bright and charged for action. The flow and delicate touch are superb. Pan juices, some char and game add detail and complexity. It's hard not to love the savoury driven charisma that this wine delivers. It's a beauty and one that will reward over the medium term.
