Winmark Wines Rusty's Run 2022

 

Winmark Wines have landed with a bang since taking over the old Poole's Rock vineyard in 2016. After bottling their first wines in 2018, they just took out the award for Cellar Door of the Year at the Hunter Valley Legends Awards in 2023. Located in the Hunter Valley subregion of Broke Fordwich, they specialise in Chardonnay. This Rusty's Run is an expression of 'new world' Chardonnay and it hits the mark.

It opens with a pop of fresh fruit. Unoaked, it is crisp and easy to drink. Aimed at those who enjoy Pinot Gris styles of wine, plentiful waves of green apple skin and fleshy pear lap at your feet. There is a fine line of lemon juice that reaches out and drives long. A wine with a soft textural presence with a delicate minerally drive, this is more than a crowd pleaser. Well played.
