Paulmara Estates Blanc de Noir 2023

This is the perfect wine to mess with everyone's head during a Wine Options game. I had a shot at the variety used and failed. My journey took me to Italy but the little known variety on these shores hails from the Mediterranean and it stole the show. A terrific food wine, charge at your weekend barbecue with this under your arm.

Such is the scarcity of the variety in Australia (I'm sworn to secrecy on it for now), there is no detail on the label nor website. Blanc de Noir is a white wine made with red grapes and winemaker Jason Barrette has excelled. Almost water clear, this wine has some muscle but looking at the colour you wouldn't suspect it.

Pear juice, white fleshed nectarines, apple cordial and fine white pepper all work in unison. A fine lick of lemon juice and the scent of citrus blossom take a moment before making themselves known. Coating the mouth with ease, it's a delightful drink with an undisputed density and I applaud its point of difference.

Drink now.
