Ihana Shiraz 2022

A Formula 1 driver meets a sixth-generation McLaren Vale producer, Ihana (Finnish for wonderful or fantastic) is a collaboration between Valtteri Bottas and Oliver's Taranga. There is a calm and admirable presence about its carry, a self-confident swagger of sorts for a wine that should be walking with arrogance given its pedigree. But it's the humility that I warm to.

Generous yet silky smooth, 5000 bottles were produced all of which are individually numbered.

Waves of dark berry fruit and dense plums hurtle their way through the mouth in what appears to be a never ending cascade. Dark chocolate, cedar, ripples of fine baking spices, five spice and drawn out pepper spices stretch the length of the home straight. Such is the persistence, the chequered flag seems a long way off. A wine of presence, endurance and classy appeal, this will reward aging.
