I made the comment in a recent review that Grenache Blanc was just about non-existent a few years ago and now it is sprouting everywhere across the Barossa. This is Yalumba's debut release and it is elite. What a cracking drink! My tasting turned into a drinking.
So fresh with a joyous presence, it carries an inner smile. There are similarities to a vibey to Pinot Gris and the rounded mouthfeel of Roussanne. As for a summer white, there is a little more X factor of interest with Grenache Blanc - it's not just a stand and deliver type.
Just about water clear, scents of cut pear, white field flowers and a subtle cashew presence get you in the mood. Pears and white fleshed stonefruit flood the mouth with a fine textural presence that keeps things ticking away. From experience, it's a great go-to as you watch the summer of cricket, but it's equally as good with a bag of chips or a cheese board.
Stretch your curiosity a little further with this fabulous option - it is an excellent addition to the Yalumba range.
Drink to three years.
