The Gardens of Moppa Shiraz 2021 from Arila Gardens was an absolute beauty, but this 2022 is pegged back a notch or two. Not as rich and mouth-coating as previous releases, it still carries itself well.
As we've come to expect with these Arila Gardens wines, there is plenty of layered splendour to enjoy. Dark cherries, blueberries, mulberry compote (just like my childhood), dark chocolate, cola, dried thyme, and dried sage provide plenty of detail with some flirtatious clove swooping late. Baking spices run long with some comforting warmth. Sure there is plenty going on but the difference in depth to previous releases was quite noticeable.
