Yelland and Papps Greenock Shiraz 2022

Greenock Shiraz hits a bit different. One of the great Barossa subregions, if you're in the hood, be sure to head to the Greenock pub. It's a proper old-school pub. And this? It's a classic, shapely Shiraz sourced and delicately handled by Yelland & Papps.

Violets and purple flowers light up the romance early. Blackberry jam, smokey meats, charcuterie board, pan juices and char all piggyback on the pretty platform laid out by those florals.

Dutch cocoa, a dash of cola, dark berries and plums, the level of interest doesn't wane. Blueberries rise up and this is where the pendulum shifts. After some time in the glass, blueberry paste and baked blueberries are more vivid and the presence takes on a fruit-driven profile building delicacy as it meanders about its work. Those initial savoury imprints seem to have passed by and the silky, blueberry and mulberry delights remain. Flickers of char and pan juices sit in the background but the length swoops and captivates. Subtle and delicate baking spice and five spice shimmers frame the long finish. This is a beautifully built and detailed Shiraz.
