A number of people have asked me what was the best Pinot I came across during my recent trek through New Zealand. Well, here it is. Sublime and then some.
An organic and biodynamic vineyard from day one of planting in 2003, the first Burn Cottage vintage was released in 2009.
Winemaker Claire Mulholland's philosophy is simple - focus on the vineyard to produce vibrant and elegant wines with balance that represent the site.
Despite a tricky flowering year, this Pinot exudes all the prettiness and delicacy that the variety has to offer. Incredible purity and elegance are laced throughout. Dark cherry fruit, dried red flowers, dried herbs and cut thyme all make a play early before strawberries and captivating spices waltz through. Balanced impeccably, this is a breathtaking example of Central Otago Pinot Noir.
