It opens with mocha, coffee grounds, dark chocolate, leather, plums and sultana. A dense wine, it is weighed down by oak. Muscular tannins coat the mouth like a slick with soft spices of clove and five spice feathered throughout. It certainly improved over a few days of tasting so aging or a long decant is the key. Those who enjoy more modern styles of Shiraz may not gravitate to this.
