Let's kick 2025 off with a blistering debut. If you enjoy fleshy white wines, this is brilliant!
I wish I had a recording of when Tim Smith swore he wouldn't make any other white wine other than his Riesling and Viognier. And then came a Rosé (which he also swore he would never make). And here we are with this Roussanne. A mid-life crisis perhaps? Whatever he is going through you need this flowing through your veins.
This is a seriously delicious expression of Roussanne. The flow, the shape, the balance - it's a mighty wine. Apricot nectar, lemon meringue, pastry and cashews slowly unfurl. It's lacy and seductive. A shadow of preserved lemon comes and goes with a flicker of Greek honey puffs, but yellow fleshed stonefruits sit at the core and refuse to move - they whisper at you and drag you closer. The detail is magnificent and the tasting was swept aside and I was licking the glass for every remaining drop. What a cracking debut!
