Purity is the word that spins around my mind as I taste this Pewsey Vale 1961 Block Riesling. What an absolute beauty this is!
The Hill-Smith family have an incredible ability to smash out excellent wines at respectful price points. Be it the Y-Series or The Caley, there is an easy argument to up the price when comparing the quality with their competitors. I've tasted a heap of Riesling lately priced over $40, $50 and more, yet this 1961 Block would not be out of place if it were lined up against them. Get in while the going is good.
This possesses a softly softly drive with veneers of interest neatly filed away. Lemons, limes, lemon zest, distinctive scents of lemon myrtle with a fine waxy thing going on. A quartz minerality sits at the core with a detailed texture leading to a most delicious and moreish finish. It's a superb Riesling indeed. Great stuff!
Drink now to embrace the freshness but it will age gracefully for ten years+
