Two top Grenache expressions from Willunga 100 fall under this label. The fruit for this wine comes from the older material on the Smart Vineyard in Clarendon, a site popular with a number of producers.
From a warmer year, it opens with dark cherries, baked raspberries, red apple skin. Firm, there is an obvious tension through the mid-palate. It really seizes up almost to withhold its splendour and any secrets that may be found within. And that tension remained for three days of tasting by which stage it was slowly drip-feeding its persona.
Earthy and fruit bun spices draw concentric circles around the mouth with absolute ease. Long and drying out ever so slowly, there is a dangerous moreishness about its carry. A little lie down will only enhance what's in the glass. Give it a year or two and you'll be rewarded deluxe.
Drink 2025 to eight years.
