Oliver's Taranga Mencia 2022

I love these Oliver's Taranga labels. Their colour is so distinctive but they also give a snapshot of the year that was. Check the bottom right, there is always a reference to "The year that..."

Mencia has been on the books for a number of years now with the first release in 2016. A Spanish variety, this is gold plated with silky lines calling for lazy, long afternoons with plentiful plates of food within arm's reach.

Dripping with dark cherries, it's the savoury personality that shines bright. Dried herbs cut loose highlighted by sage, thyme and a rub of dried mint. A flash of dark chocolate wants in with red currants and a boisterous acidity that just wants to give you an embrace. Those pretty purple floral scents just keep coming just as that chalky tannin keeps drawing out a long and moreish finish. Feed this and it will nourish you. A brilliant wine.
