Negroni like in appearance, this ND Wines Tempranillo/Albarino Rosé also resembles a reddish smokey sunset.
Like its Albarino sibling, this is not overly aromatic with the focus being on the colour and texture. The fruit was co-fermented in seasoned French oak and left on lees for 6 months to build interest.
Some dried red flower aromas flick about but the fine chalky and talc feels steal the show. Orange rind, some lemon juice, pie apple and even a little scrumpy shuffles forward. Some white pepper adds a touch of spice to the edges.
It's a simpler drink than the Albarino but its approachability is certainly one of its strengths. Trendy bars in Melbourne's Fitzroy and Brisbane's Fortitude Valley and the like would eat this up. It's worth noting that there is a fair chunk of deposit in the bottle but don't let it dissuade you.
