Welcome to funky town. A skinsy Albarino courtesy of McLaren Vale's ND wines. Its appearance speaks of summertime just as the sunlight warms your skin and the colour reminds me of those old school orange Sunny Boy ice blocks.
Mandarin and tangelo aromas with a flicker of candied ginger, the flavour profile is dominated by the rich texture. Fermented in seasoned oak and on lees for six months, chalky and powdery tannins are the focal point and they cling to the front and mid-palate. Preserved lemon and some fennel crawl out ever so slowly and the finish is long and drying. A most interesting take on the variety and texture hounds will be more than happy to lap this up. It's worth noting that there is a fair chunk of deposit in the bottle but don't let it dissuade you.
