Formerly known as the Sand Garden Grenache, a slight tweak to Single Vineyard has been made to better reflect the three tiers produced by Arila Gardens. This Grenache is as excellent as ever.
The fifth release from 120 year old bush vines, they dig their feet into the sandy soil of their northern Barossa home. Their struggle produces small berries and bunches contributing to excellent colour and flavour. Having walked this site a few years ago, the quality is clear.
Fermented for nine days with a small percentage of whole bunches placed in the bottom of the fermenter, it was hand plunged with no acid additions seeing seasoned French oak for 14 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is an expressive and incredibly delicious wine.
A gorgeous perfume of violets and purple flowers diffuses from the glass. Juicy raspberries run riot with baked raspberries, squishy blueberries and dark cherries peeling off neat layers of interest. Superfine and delicate, its supple flow and charismatic presence deliver a fabulous moreishness and a memorable length. A touch of acidity early offers a nod to longevity, but that settles soon enough.
If you seek an excellent example of Barossa Grenache from a small producer, head on over this way.
