A richer style of Riesling, this Gundog Estate from the Hilltops differs from those that have come before.
Picked a bit later than most with 13% alcohol (as per the label), there is more body present and it has a voluptuous carry which veers away from the more precise style many have come to know. There are similarities to German Riesling.
Opening with scents of pie apple, lavender, musk, there is a dab of sweetness from a little residual sugar. The aroma profile flows to the mouth as it washes about with rounded edges. More of a considered style you could say, it reminded me of a Fiano I tasted not too long ago. A good drink in its own right, but if the sizzle from the acidity is what you are after, you may need to go looking elsewhere.
Drink to five years.
