This Cabernet Merlot is great. What a beauty without dropping your week's wage in one hit. It's considered, layered and even a little glossy adding some polish to woo you. Well done to the team at Flametree once more.
I swear winemaker Cliff Royale's middle name is Mr Reliability - he just doesn't make a bad wine.
Juicy blackberries and black currants sit front and centre with a delightful mintiness tying up the flank. Puffs of earth, an array of dried herbs along with tobacco and tar, it dries out slowly to reveal plump tannins. Let it breathe and the suggestion of tomato paste rises up.
Released 1 September, this is great drinking for the asking price. It will age gracefully but I am enjoying the vibrancy of its youth.
