From a single vineyard planted in 2017, The Greys pays homage to the Eastern Grey kangaroos that travel through this vineyard and often engage in some fisty cuffs along the way. An excellent first up release, the wines from Lyons Will never fail to impress.
Sitting 510 metres above, this 2.5 hectare block is mostly planted to the Abel clone then MV6 and 777 (60/20/20). Handpicked with 30% whole bunches and semi-carbonic maceration, it was wild yeast fermented and saw 20% new French oak barriques for 12 months. Only 75 cases were produced.
Detailed with veneers of interest as Lyons Will only know how, strawberries, sour cherries and red plums kick start proceedings with sauteed mushrooms and mushroom compost hot on their tail. There is a clenched fist tension with a flash of cola, but as things settle, blueberry pie and blackberries shine. A faint suggestion of mint leaf comes and goes and then the delicate spices chime in. Ever so fine, they seductively tingle and heighten the delicate close that seems never-ending. Considered, sophisticated, this is a mighty fine Pinot Noir.
