This Gundog Estate Hunter's Shiraz is an excellent release. A captivating depth and an alluring length demand you to return for more.
Sourced from two Hunter Valley vineyards (Will's Hill and Tinklers), both sitting on clay over loam, the finished wine saw 20% new French oak for twelve months.
The best Hunter's Shiraz I have seen to date, the flow and elegance are most impressive. What makes it even more attractive is the medium bodied weight that the Hunter does all too well.
Dark plums and blackberries are the key players with dark chocolate, star anise, a wash of cedar and mocha happily playing supporting roles. There is a manicured length that just hangs and it's laced with baking spices that reach long. It's hard to stop at one glass, and after a bracket of wines, this is the one I came back to for an extra dose. Great stuff.
