Wild and alive and I love it. Introducing this fabulous Single Vineyard Syrah from Montalto which is the best release I have seen of this to date.
It oozes that Montalto energy that Simon Black injects all too well. It was handpicked and pressed to French oak (25% new) for wild fermentation before cooling its heels for 11 months before bottling.
Layered with interest, think purple flowers, dark berries, stewed blueberries, cola, tilled earth and char. It's an engaging sit and sip type of wine that rolls through the mouth effortlessly. The detail unfurls with ease and offers much to ponder. Fine, sandy tannins reach long on a persistent and devilishly moreish finish. Drinking well now, it will age gracefully should you have the patience to do so.
Drink to eight years.
