Jot down Byrne Farm. Super wines and very reasonably priced. This 2021 Chardonnay is quality deluxe, the only problem is that it is sold out. So good, I could bathe in it.
Grown at 900 metres above on the northern side of Orange's Mount Canobolas from a wet year, the fruit was handpicked (four weeks later than normal) and whole bunch pressed seeing 30% new French oak for nine months. Lean at 12.3%, there is an unmistakable purity about its carry. Super fresh, lemon juice is the hero. Lots of lees stirring has built some texture and creamy feels. The longer it sits the more white fleshed nectarines emerge. There is a minerally vibe here too - moreso than the previous 2019 which was richer, but that wine now has some bottle age on its side. Big love.
Drink to eight years.
